  1. (geology, geomorphology) The process of subsurface weathering or etching which creates etchplains.
    • 1985, Richard Hugh Johnson, The Geomorphology of North-west England, page 52:
      Deep weathering and etchplanation can occur in the humid sub-tropics (Tricart, 1972) and a humid sub-tropical Britain in Tertiary times is possible.
