Catalan
Etymology
From earlier frantissa, either via Old Catalan frant, past participle of frànyer (“to break”), or directly from a Vulgar Latin *fractītia. Either way, ultimately from Latin frangō and modified by folk etymology due to being associated with front.

frontissa f (plural frontisses)
- hinge (device that allows the pivoting of a door)
- Synonyms: blegadissa, xarnera
- (colloquial) joint (point of the body where two bones join)
