From Proto-Brythonic *kroɨx, from Proto-Celtic *kruxsā, from Latin crux. Cognate with Breton kroaz, Irish cros, Manx crosh, Scottish Gaelic crois, and Welsh croes. Doublet of krog (“hang, suspension”).
