Swedish

Etymology

lins (lens) + lus (louse), used at least since 1973, probably a loan from lens louse. The word looks very similar to shutterbug, but refers to the person being in the photo, not the avid amateur photographer.

Pronunciation

  • Audio:(file)

Noun

linslus c

  1. a lens louse; a person who frequently and happily appears in photos

Usage notes

  • SAOL doesn't give any plural form. For lus, the plural would be -löss, but here -lusar is far more common. A similar case is datormus (computer mouse) with the plural either musar (mouses) or möss (mice), both in English and Swedish.
