Inherited from Ottoman Turkish معجون (maʼcun, “paste; putty”), itself from Arabic مَعْجُون (maʕjūn, “paste; putty”).

- (in general) paste, any soft and moist mixture of several ingredients incorporated together
- putty, a form of cement made from linseed oil and whiting used in domestic construction and repair
