propodite (plural propodites)

  1. (zoology) The sixth joint of a typical leg of a crustacean, usually the penultimate joint.
  2. (zoology) One of the muscles responsible for moving the propodite.
    • 1959, “White Shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico”, in Fishery Bulletin of the Fish and Wildlife Service, volume 59, page 103:
      The arrangement of the propodite muscles in the carpopodite is very similar to that of the carpopodite muscles within the meropodite.
