Etymology
From Middle English *poukel, *pukel, from Old English pūcel (“a goblin, demon, a mischievous spirit”), diminutive of pūca (“demon, goblin, imp”), equivalent to puck + -le. Cognate with Danish pokker (“devil, deuce”). More at puck.
