Etymology 1

Borrowed from Old East Slavic сапогъ (sapogŭ), from Proto-Slavic *sapogъ. The nominative and partitive singular stem is analogical from earlier saappaa < *saappaga (compare piiras). Compare Karelian šuappua, Livvi suappai, Veps sapag, Estonian saabas.
