  1. (nautical) a scupper on a ship, canoe or other vessel
    • 1923, Charles Boardman Hawes, The Dark Frigate, Chapter 8:
      The mate, going aft, was caught in the waist when the ship gave a mighty lurch, and went tumbling to lee-ward where the scupper-holes were spouting like so many fountains all a-row.
