Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Berber *taβurt (“door”), derived from Proto-Berber *əβər (“to be closed, to close”). Unrelated to Latin porta (“gate”), and Tuareg aru (“to open”).
Cognate with Ghomara taggurt (“door”), Kabyle tabburt (“door”), Ghadames taββurt (“door”), Tarifit tawwurt (“door”), Tuareg tahort (“door”), Sokna tawort (“door”), Awjila tevûrt (“door”), avìr (“wall”), and avvûr (“closing”).
