Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طاوق (tavuk, hen, fowl), from earlier *taɣuq/*taquq, from Proto-Turkic *takïgu (hen, fowl). Cognate with Chuvash чӑх (čăh), Old Uyghur 𐾀𐽰𐽲𐽶𐽲𐽳 (tʾqyqw /⁠takïgu⁠/), Karakhanid تَقاغُو (taqāɣū, domestic fowl).
