1. (derogatory) Supporting of environment concerns such as combating pollution, deforestation, etc.

   He could have developed his oil wells if it wasn't for those pesky tree-hugging hippies.

2. (literal) To wrap one's arms around the trunk of a tree, as in an embrace.
