    From Middle Cornish troys, from Old Cornish truit, from Proto-Brythonic *traɣed, from Proto-Celtic *tregess, from Proto-Indo-European *tregʰ- (to run, walk), apparently a variant of *dʰregʰ- (to run). Cognate with Breton troad, Irish and Scottish Gaelic troigh, Manx trie, and Welsh troed.
