Etymology 1

From Middle Dutch vore, vor, voor, from Old Dutch fora, fore, from Proto-West Germanic *forē, from Proto-Germanic *furai. There were originally two distinct Germanic forms, *furai and *furi, which functionally merged in most Germanic languages, including Dutch. The form derived from the former became standard in Dutch, while the latter survives as the dialectal form veur.

Preposition

voor

  1. for

  2. before
    Antonym: na

  3. in front of
    Antonym: achter
Die auto staat altijd voor ons huis geparkeerd.
That car is always parked in front of our house.
Usage notes
