Pronunciation
Etymology 1
From Middle Dutch vore, vor, voor, from Old Dutch fora, fore, from Proto-West Germanic *forē, from Proto-Germanic *furai. There were originally two distinct Germanic forms, *furai and *furi, which functionally merged in most Germanic languages, including Dutch. The form derived from the former became standard in Dutch, while the latter survives as the dialectal form veur.

Usage notes
In the sense of 'before' or 'in front of', voor is accented and is sometimes written vóór to disambiguate from the sense 'for'.
