Etymology

From translingual Zonurus, from zon- (“girdle, belt”), from Ancient Greek ζώνη (zṓnē, “girdle, belt”) + -urus (“-tailed”), from Ancient Greek οὐρά (ourá, “tail”).

1. Any one of several of South African lizards of the genus Zonurus (now Smaug), common in rocky environments.
