Yi-Fu Tuan

Yi-Fu Tuan (Duàn Yìfú 段義孚 / 段义孚; 5. detsember 1930 Tianjin – 10. august 2022) oli hiina päritolu Ameerika Ühendriikide inimgeograaf.

Yi-Fu Tuan sündis Hiinas, õppis Inglismaal ning töötas seejärel Kanadas ja Ameerika Ühendriikides.

Ideid

Yi-Fu Tuani tuntuim käsitlus on ruumist ja kohast (space and place). Inimese kultuuriline tegevus on vaadeldav ruumi teisendamisena kohtadeks: ruumis kohtade loomine, neile tähenduste ja nimede andmine; metsiku ja ohtliku ruumi muutmine turvalisteks ja kodusteks kohtadeks. Ruumi ja koha vahekorda näeb ta ka vaimu ja keha puhul: vaim võib vabalt ruumis ringi hulkuda, kuid keha on seotud koos oma meeleorganitega kindlasse asukohta.^[1]

Yi-Fu Tuani järgi on linn seda enam linn, mida vähem on seal tunda öö ja päeva ning aastaaegade vaheldumist. Linn on seega inimeste loodud kunstlik keskkond, milles püütakse võimalikult vähendada looduslike tegurite mõju.
