Jane Cobden Unwin (1851–1947) oli brittiläinen liberaali poliitikko.[1] Hän oli enimmäinen nainen joka valittiin Lontoon kaupunginvaltuustoon, missä hän edusti Bromleyn ja Bown vaalipiiriä.[2]
Cobdenin isä Richard Cobden oli tunnettu liberaalipoliitikko, joka ajoi aktiivisesti vapaakauppaa. Jane ja hänen sisarensa tiedostivat varhain monien ihmisten kokemaa epäoikeudenmukaisuutta. 1870-luvun alusta alkaen Jane Cobden oli mukana suffragettiliikkeessä edistämässä naisten äänioikeutta.[3]
Cobdenin mielenkiinto ulottui hänen oman maansa ulkopuolelle. Hän matkusteli laajalti ja tuki Irlannin itsenäisyyttä, Kongon uudistuksia ja Venäjän vapautusliikettä. Hän vastusti orjuutta ja buurisotaa ja edisti siirtomaiden asukkaiden oikeuksia. Matkallaan Irlannissa vuonna 1887 hän näki miten irlantilaisia maanvuokraajia kohdeltiin huonosti, ja kirjoitti tästä englantilaisiin sanomalehtiin. Levottomuuksien aikana hän hankki apua lakkolaisten lapsille ja vaimoille, ja Irlannin vapaussodan aikana tuki sodan uhreja.[3]
Vuonna 1892 41-vuotias Jane Cobden meni naimisiin kustantaja Thomas James Fisher Unwinin kanssa, ja otti käyttöön nimen Cobden-Unwin. Puolisoilla oli yhteinen näkemys edistyksellisestä politiikasta. Unwin julkaisi modernien kirjailijoiden kuten Ibsenin, Yeatsin ja H. G. Wellsin teoksia, ja pariskunta seurusteli aikansa taiteilijoiden kanssa.[3]
