Svenska Filminstitutet on säätiö, joka on perustettu vuonna 1963 tukemaan ja kehittämään Ruotsin elokuva-alaa.[1]
Filminstitutetin hallituksen valitsee Ruotsin hallitus, ja toimintaa säätelee sopimus, jonka ovat solmineet valtio, SVT, TV4 ja elokuva-ala. Filminstitutetin varoja käytetään ruotsalaisen elokuvan tuotannon, levityksen ja esitysten tukemiseen sekä elokuvakulttuurin tukemiseen.
Filminstitutetin toimitalo eli Filmhuset sijaitsee Tukholman Gärdetin kaupunginosassa draamakorkeakoulun kampusalueen takana. Vuosina 1967–1970 rakennetun talon on suunnitellut arkkitehti Peter Celsing.[2] Filmhuset otettiin käyttöön tammikuussa 1971. Kuusikerroksinen betoniseinäinen rakennus on 155 metriä pitkä ja sisältää toimistotiloja sekä neljä studiota.[3] Rakennuksen on tarkoitus muistuttaa kameraa, joka suuntautuu pohjoiseen.
Filminstitutetin rakennuksessa Filmhusetissa on kaksi elokuvateatteria, Bio Victor Victor Sjöströmin mukaan ja Bio Mauritz Mauritz Stillerin mukaan.
