Paul Chambers

Paul Laurence Dunbar Chambers, Jr. (22. huhtikuuta 1935 – 4. tammikuuta 1969) oli 1950- sekä 60-luvun tärkeimpiä jazzbasisteja. Hän syntyi Pittsburghissa, mutta vietti nuoruutensa Detroitissa. Hän ja Slam Stewart olivat ensimmäisiä jazzbasisteja, jotka soittivat sooloja myös jousella. Vuodesta 1955 aina vuoteen 1963 hän oli Miles Davisin kvintetin jäsen, ja soitti muun muassa kuuluisalla Davisin Kind of Blue-levyllä.

Chambers soitti myös John Coltranen albumilla Giant Steps. Coltranen kappale "Mr. P. C." on nimetty Chambersin mukaan. Hän levytti monien kuuluisien muusikoiden kanssa, kuten Cannonball Adderley, Donald Byrd, Sonny Rollins, Freddie Hubbard, Jackie McLean ja Bud Powell. Tämän lisäksi hän toimi yhtyeen johtajana.

Chambersilla oli ongelmia sekä alkoholin että huumeiden suhteen. Hän kuoli 33-vuotiaana tuberkuloosiin vuonna 1969.
