Le , le décret présidentiel signé par Viktor Ianoukovytch consacre la réserve naturelle. Il protège dix-neuf espèces végétales présentes sur la livre rouge d'Ukraine et dis-sept espèces de la faune européenne protégée par l'UICN[1].
