Biographie

Contexte

Il étudie à Oxford où il obtient son Master of Arts et son Doctorat of Sciences. Il devient le conservateur de l’herbier de l'université d'Oxford. Membre de diverses sociétés savantes dont la Royal Society en 1927. Il devint maire d'Oxford en 1900.

Druce est notamment l’auteur de :

  • The flora of Oxfordshire: being a topographical and historical account of the flowering plants and ferns found in the county, with sketches of the progress of Oxfordshire botany during the last three centuries (Parker, Londres, 1886, réédité et enrichi en 1927 chez Clarendon Press, Oxford).
  • Avec Sydney Howard Vines (1849-1934) pour le deuxième volume, An Account of the Herbarium of the University of Oxford (deux volumes, 1897 et 1919).
  • The flora of Berkshire: being a topographical and historical account of the flowering plants and ferns found in the county (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1897).
  • Avec une préface de S.H. Vines The Dillenian Herbaria. An account of the Dillenian collections in the Herbarium of the University of Oxford, together with a biographical sketch of Dillenius, selections from his correspondence (Clarendon Press, Oxford, 1907).
