Synopsis

Développement

En , Stella Meghie est annoncée à la réalisation d'un film biographique sur Whitney Houston intitulé I Wanna Dance with Somebody, en clin d’œil à la chanson du même nom. Anthony McCarten est annoncé pour écrire le script et produire le film avec notamment Clive Davis (qui a produit Whitney Houston) et Pat Houston (belle-sœur de la chanteuse)[9]. En , TriStar acquiert le film[10]. En , Kasi Lemmons remplace finalement Stella Meghie comme réalisatrice[11].

Attribution des rôles

En , Naomi Ackie est confirmée dans le rôle de Whitney Houston[12]. En , Ashton Sanders est choisi pour incarner Bobby Brown[13]. Stanley Tucci rejoint peu après le film dans le rôle du producteur Clive Davis[14]. En , Nafessa Williams, Clarke Peters et Tamara Tunie viennent étoffer la distribution[15].

Tournage

Le tournage débute en à Newark[16]. Des scènes sont tournées aux Marina Studios de Boston[17], à Arlington et Worcester[18],[19].
