Alexander Bain, nado en Aberdeen o 11 de xuño de 1818 e finado na mesma cidade o 18 de setembro de 1903, foi un educador e filósofo escocés. Destacou pola aplicación da filosofía á psicoloxía.

En 1840 comezou a colaborar na Westminster Review e coñece a John Stuart Mill, con quen mantivo unha longa amizade. Profesor da Universidade de Glasgow en 1845, ao ano seguinte deixouno para dedicarse a escribir. En 1848 trasládase a Londres onde publicou The Senses and the Intellect (1855) e The Emotions and the Will (1859). En 1860 foi nomeado pola coroa catedrático de lóxica e literatura inglesa na Universidade de Aberdeen.
