ハリー・T・オオシマ

ハリー・T・オオシマ（Harry T. Oshima、1917年 - 1998年3月15日）は^[1][2]、アジア諸国の国民所得測定と経済構造に関する先駆的研究で知られるアメリカ合衆国の経済学者。ハワイ大学名誉教授^[2]。

略歴

1940年にハワイ大学で学士号を取得。第二次世界大戦中はアメリカ戦略情報局（OSS）にて勤務。戦後にニューヨークの全米経済研究所（NBER）、国際連合統計局に勤務。1954年から1957年まで、スタンフォード大学にて講師・研究員を務める。1956年にコロンビア大学で経済学博士号（Ph.D.）取得。博士論文ではアジア諸国の国民所得統計の信頼性と有用性を評価。1957年から1959年までワシントン大学 (ワシントン州)で助教授。1959年から1961年まで東京の大学で客員研究員。1961年から1973年までハワイ大学経済学部教授。1966年から1969年までシンガポールで研究および教育活動に従事。1968年から1971年までイースト・ウエスト・センターおよびハワイ大学経済研究センターにてシニアフェロー。1972年から1983年までロックフェラー財団のフィリピン代表。1980年代初頭にインドネシア、タイ、フィリピンで客員教授。1990年代にフィリピン大学で客員教授、東西センターで客員フェロー。1996年に晩年の代表作「The Role of Social Values in the Growth of Asian Economies」を『Journal of the Asia Pacific Economy』に発表。1998年3月15日に死去（80歳）。葬儀はホノルルのホソイ葬儀場にて行われた。

学術的業績

• 国民所得統計に関する計測手法を国連時代に開発。師であるサイモン・クズネッツ（ノーベル経済学賞受賞者）とともに、発展途上国の統計制度向上に寄与^[2]。
• アジア諸国の経済構造に関する研究では、小規模な自給的生産と地域的交換が戦後経済の中心であると分析^[2]。
• 学術誌の編集委員としても活動^[2]。

私生活

ホノルル出身。妻チエとの間に2人の息子（ニール、エヴィン）と3人の孫がいる。姉妹にドリス・カサハラ、ヨシエ・ウエキ、ヒサエ・オオシマがいる^[2]。
