ロス・ホンスバーガー

ロス・ホンスバーガー（英: Ross Honsberger、 (1929-06-02) 1929年6月2日 - 2016年4月3日(2016-04-03) ^[1]）は、カナダの数学者、 娯楽数学（英語版）の著者。

経歴

ホンスバーガーはトロント大学を学士号を得て卒業し、10年の間トロントで教師として働いた。その後、ウォータールー大学で修士号を獲得した。1964年から、数学科に所属し後に名誉教授になった。

彼は組合せ数学と最適化、特に算数・数学教育分野を扱った。例えば離散幾何学において生徒と数学教師に頻繁に講義を行った。他に、Ontario Secondary School Mathematics Bulletin の編集を行っていた。

（大抵はアメリカ数学協会（英語版）から）初等数学の幾何学、数論、組合せ数学、確率論や、娯楽数学（英語版）の数々の書籍を出版した。特にハンス・ラーデマッヘルとオットー・テプリッツ（英語版）の数と図の書籍をモデルとしていた。

国際数学オリンピックや他の競技の問題の解説もしきりと行っていた。

エドガー・ダイクストラはホンスバーガーの書籍 Mathematical Gems を"delightful"と形容した^[2]。
