딕 킹스미스(Dick King-Smith, OBE^[1], 1922년 3월 27일 ~ 2011년 1월 4일^[2])는 영국의 아동문학 작가이다.

《양치기 돼지》(The Sheep-Pig)가 유명하며, 이는 미국에서는 《용감한 돼지 베이브》라는 제목으로 출간되어 1995년 《꼬마 돼지 베이브》란 제목으로 영화화되었다.

생애

1922년 글로스터셔주에서 태어났다. 제2차 세계 대전에 군인으로서 참전한 경력이 있고, 그 후 20년간 농업에 종사하다 교사와 작가로 활동했다. 처음으로 쓴 책은 1978년 출간된 《여우잡이 암탉 삼총사》(The Fox Busters)이고, 이때 그의 나이는 56세였다. 딕 킹스미스는 늦게 등단했지만 영국에서 가장 많은 작품을 발표한 작가 중 한명으로, 100권이 넘는 책을 집필하였고 이들은 12개 언어로 번역되었다.

그는 평생 브리스틀 근교의 농업마을 퀸 찰턴(Queen Charlton)에 거주하며 에이번 야생보호협회(Avon Wildlife Trust) 부회장으로서 지역사회에 봉사했다.

딕 킹스미스는 1943년 첫 번째 아내 멀(Myrle)과 결혼하여 3명의 자녀와 12명의 손자들을 두었다. 멀은 2000년 사망했고, 딕 킹스미스는 가족과 가까웠던 조나 베딩(Zona Bedding)과 재혼했다.^[3]

딕 킹스미스는 2011년 1월 5일 88세로 사망하였다.
