Apetitas (lot. appetitus – 'troškimas, siekimas') – noras valgyti ir malonumo jausmas valgant. T. y. normalus maisto poreikis, reikalingas gauti pakankamai maisto medžiagų ir energijos gyvybei palaikyti.[1] Normalus apetitas rodo gerą žmogaus sveikatos būklę, o patologinis apetito praradimas vadinasi anoreksija.[2] Itin riebus, saldus maistas (pvz., saldumynai) bei maisto stipriklis (mononatrio glutamatas) gali sužadinti apetitą net ir nepraalkusiam žmogui ir galiausiai privesti prie nutukimo.[3][4]
Apetito pojūtį sukelia galvos smegenyse (pagumburyje) esantys alkį ir sotumą reguliuojantys centrai.[1] Apetitą žadina hormonas grelinas, veikiantis pogumburyje esančius grelino receptorius (GHS-R).[5]
