Svētupe ir upe Vidzemes rietumos, Limbažu novadā. Iztek no Dūņezera. Upe tek pa Metsepoles līdzenumu, baseinā daudz mežu un purvu. Augštece tek pa seklu, pārpurvotu ieleju, vidustece — pa pa dziļu (līdz 10 m pie Pāles) ieleju. 4 km garā Jaunupe Svētupes lejteci savieno ar Salacu. Mīt ālanti, līdakas, raudas, asari, sapali, zuši.[1]

Lielākās apdzīvotās vietas krastos ir Šķirstiņi, Pāle, Lauva, Kuiķule, Avotkalns, Svētciems. Upi šķērso autoceļi A1 un P12.
Svētupes nosaukums pirmo reizi parādās 18. gadsimta kartēs. Tā Vilhelma Kristiana Frībes 1798. gadā veidotajā Livonijas kartē minēta 'Sweet fluss', Ludviga Augusta Mellina kartē — 'Swet uppe' (1798). Vidzemes guberņas pārskata kartē 1839. gadā — 'Sweht uppe'.
Upes lībiskais nosaukums nav zināms. Iespējams, līvu valodas vārdsakni ar nozīmi 'svēt-' var atrast 19. gadsimtā minētajā apdzīvotas vietas paralēlajā nosaukumā 'Püög'. Tādā gadījumā latvieši burtiski pārtulkoja grūti izrunājamo (Püög joug) upes lībisko nosaukumu.
