Плутониум хексафлуорид е највисокиот флуорид на плутониум, и е од интерес за ласерско збогатување на плутониум, особено за производство на чист плутониум-239 од зрачен ураниум. Овој чист плутониум е потребен за да се избегне предвремено палење на нискомасовните дизајни на нуклеарно оружје од неутроните произведени со спонтана фисија на плутониум-240.
