തലാമസ് സെറിബ്രത്തിന് താഴെയായി കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.ശരീരത്തിലെ സംവേദ-പ്രേരക സന്ദേശങ്ങളുടെ പ്രധാന ഏകോപന കേന്ദ്രം. വേദനാസംഹാരികൾ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന തലച്ചോറിലെ ഭാഗമാണ് തലാമസ് .ഉറക്കത്തിൽ ആവേഗങ്ങളെ സെറിബ്രത്തിലേക്ക് കടത്തിവിടാതെ തടഞ്ഞു നിർത്തുന്ന കേന്ദ്രം തലാമസാണ് .
