Ayodhya

Ayodhya er ein by i delstaten Uttar Pradesh i India, 555 km aust for Delhi. Byen har ei lang historie og er rekna som heimbyen til guden Rama. I nyare tid har byen vore sentral i konfliktar mellom indiske muslimar og hindunasjonalistar, etter at sistnemnde reiv ein moské frå 1600-talet, Babri Masjid, for å gje plass til eit hindutempel på staden som er rekna som fødestaden til Rama.

Den tidlegare hovudstaden i Thailand, Ayutthaya, er kalla opp etter Ayodha på grunn av stillinga til byen i Ramayana-eposet.
