Jane Hirshfield (fødd 24. februar 1953)[1] er ein amerikansk diktar, essayist og omsetjar. Ho har undervist ved fleire ameikanske universitet, som University of California, San Francisco og Stanford. I 2012 blei ho vald til leiar (chancellor) av Academy of American Poets.[2]

Liv
Jane Hirshfield var fødd i New York by.[2] Foreldra hennar var Harriet Miller Hirshfield og Robert Hirshfield, som dreiv med tekstilindustri.[3]
Ho tok bachelorgraden ved Princeton University i det første årskullet som også omfatta kvinner. Kort tid seinare, i 1973, gav ho ut sitt første dikt. Deretter tok ho ein skrivepause på nær åtte år medan ho studerte zen-buddhisme ved San Francisco Zen Center.[4]
Hirshfield byrja samla og gje ut antologiar av dikt skrivne av kvinner, og etterkvart særleg religiøse dikt av kvinner.[4]
