Trollmann-rock (engelsk Wizard rock, nokre gonger forkorta til Wrock) er ein sjanger innan rock. Sjangeren har opphav frå 2002-2004 i USA. Typisk for trollmann-rock band er deira forstillingar og humoristiske songar om Harry Potter-universet.[1][2] Sjangeren byrja med bandet Harry and the Potters i Massachusetts, sjølv om det har vakse internasjonalt.[3][4] Det er vanleg å spele inn sine eigene songar og distribuere dei med nettbaserte sosiale nettverk-kanaler.

Dei to mest populære banda i sjangeren er Harry and the Potters og Draco and the Malfoys.[5] Sjølv om dei fleste lyttarar er fans av Harry Potter-serien, har nokre band også fått tilhengarar utanfor bøkenes fanbase.[6] Songane er ofte skrivne utifrå synspunkt av ein spesiell karakter frå bøkene, vanlegvis karakteren som blir nemnt i bandnamnet. I motsetning til ordinære band som har nokre songar innehaldande litterære referansar blant eit breiare repertoar av musikk.

Historie

Den tidlegaste songen med Harry Potter som tema er konvensjonelt tilbake i 2000, då det Los Angeles baserte pop-punk bandet Switchblade Kittens gav ut ein «Ode to Harry» frå perspektivet til Gulla Wiltersen. Harry and the Potters er det fyrste bandet med Harry Potter-tema, og dette bandet starta ein fan-fokusert sjanger med musikk kalla trollmann-rock. Etterkvart som Harry and the Potters auka i popularitet, byrja det å dukke opp andre trollmann-rock band, til dømes Draco and the Malfoys og The Whomping Willows.
