Downe er en landsby i distriktet Bromley i England. Den ligger i en skogkledd dal, 5,5 km sørvest for Orpington og 22,9 km sørøst for Charing Cross. Fram til 1965 tilhørte området det tradisjonelle grevskapet Kent.

Navnet Downe er antagelig avledet fra angelsaksiske dun, i betydningen høyde (blant flere). Sammenlign med North Downs.[1] Stavingen har endret seg i årenes løp: Done eller Doune i 1283, Dune i 1304, Downe i 1610, endret til Down på 1800-tallet, og på 1900-tallet atter tilbake til Downe.[2]
Da Charles Darwin flyttet hit og til huset Down House i 1842 var stedet kjent som Down. Stavingen av navnet ble senere endret til Downe. Darwin ble boende her i 40 år.[3]
Down House og området rundt har blitt nominert som verdensarvsted, men det har ennå ikke blitt foretatt en avgjørelse.[4]
Downe er lokaliseringen av Buckston Browne Farm som ble bygget i 1931 som medisinsk forskningssenter av Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). Stedet er oppkalt etter George Buckston Browne, lege og en pioner innen urologi. Han kjøpte Charles Darwins tidligere hjem Down House i 1927.
På 1980-tallet ble stedet kontroversielt da det avslørt at stedet benyttet viviseksjon, det vil si kirurgiske inngrep på levende forsøksdyr. I august 1984 ble stedet angrepet av motstandere av viviseksjon.[2] Gården ble siden omgjort til fire bolighus.[5]
