Kirken er bygget i teglstein forblendet med lokal, rød granitt.[2] Kirken ble innviet 18. juni 1916, dagen før Fjågesund kirke, som ble oppført parallelt. Den overtok da for Kviteseid gamle kirke som Kviteseids hovedkirke. I 1937–38 malte Rolf Klemetsrud apsisveggen rundt vinduet med motiver fra Jesu død og oppstandelse. Altertavlen under vinduet viser Guds lam.
På kirkegården står et kombinert bårehus og servicebygg fra 1968.
