Liberatores («frigjørere») er den betegnelsen som Julius Cæsars drapsmenn brukte om seg selv for å rettferdiggjøre drapet.
Mennene som er regnet for å være lederne av sammensvergelsen, var Gaius Cassius Longinus og Marcus Junius Brutus (sønn av Cæsars elskerinne Servilia Caepionis)
Marcus Tullius Cicero var ikke medlem av sammensvergelsen, og ble overrasket da attentatet var et faktum, men skrev senere til konspiratoren Trebonius at han ønsket han hadde blitt «invitert til den herlige banketten».[1] Cicero mente at liberatorene også skulle ha drept Marcus Antonius. Konspiratorene mente imidlertid at én tyranns dødsfall ville ha en sterkere symbolsk effekt, og hevdet i tillegg at hensikten ikke var et statskupp, men å fjerne en tyrann.
Mordet på Julius Cæsar var resultatet av en konspirasjon mellom flere romerske senatorer. Den ble ledet av Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus, og Marcus Junius Brutus.[2][3] De stakk Julius Cæsar til døde på et sted som lå tilstøtende til Pompeius’ teater på Idus martiae (15. mars) 44 f.Kr. Cæsar var romersk diktator av den romerske republikk på denne tiden etter å ha blitt erklært dictator perpetuo (diktator på livstid)[4] av senatet. Denne utnevnelsen førte til at flere senatorer fryktet at Cæsar ønsket å fjerne senatet til fordel for et tyranni. Konspiratørene, liberatores, som de kalte seg, viste seg ute av stand til å gjenopprette republikken. Forgreningene av konspirasjonen og drapet førte til borgerkrig og til sist at prinsipatet ble innført, noe som var begynnelsen på det romerske keiserrike
Rundt 40 mennesker var involvert i sammensvergelsen, men rundt halvparten av navnene har gått tapt i historien og bortimot ingenting er kjent om de navnene som har overlevd.[5] De kjente attentatmennene var:
