În același ani a publicat cartea The Seven Sisters of Sleep, o istorie populară despre narcoticele prevalente din lume, iar În 1862 a fondat Society of Amateur Botanists (Societatea Botaniștilor Amatori).[5]
To serve as an atlas to the Handbook of British Fungi în 8 volume cu 1200 plăci colorate de el, Massee și alții (1881-1891).[4]
