Începând cu Worldcon-ul din 1996, World Science Fiction Society a creat conceptul de "Retro Hugo", un premiu Hugo acordat retroactiv pentru lucrări din urmă cu 50, 75 sau 100 de ani.[68] Premiul Retro Hugo a fost acordat de trei ori: pentru 1946, 1951 și 1954.[Note 1] Premiul Retro Hugo pentru lucrări din 1939 a fost acordat 75 de ani mai târziu, în timp ce celelalte trei au fost acordate după 50 de ani.[69] Următorul premiu Retro Hugo poate fi acordat în 2016, pentru lucrări din 1941.[68]
