Helle Thorning-Schmidt (Dens pronunciation: [ˈhɛlə ˈtoɐ̯neŋ ˈsmed]; born 14 December 1966)[1] is a Dens politeecian who haes been the Prime Meenister o Denmark syne 3 October 2011 an the Leader o the Social Democrats syne 12 Aprile 2005. She is the first woman tae hauld either post.

She wis electit tae replace Mogens Lykketoft as Leader o the Social Democrats efter the 2005 parliamentary election, leadin her pairty through the 2007 parliamentary election, which wis wan bi the centre-richt alliance, an the 2011 parliamentary election, efter which she wis appyntit Prime Meenister bi Queen Margrethe II. Thorning-Schmidt haulds degrees in poleetical science frae the Varsity o Copenhagen an the College o Europe.[1]
