Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar (born 13 Dizember 1955; deed 17 Mairch 2019) wis an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Pairty. Afore bein inductit intae the Cooncil o Meenisters o the Union Govrenment on 9 November 2014, he servit as the Chief Meenister o Goa, first frae 2000 tae 2005 an later frae Mairch 2012 tae November 2014, an agin frae 14 Mairch 2017 tae his daith.[2][3][4] He is a member o the Rajya Sabha frae Uttar Pradesh.[5]

Early life

Parrikar was born at Mapusa, Goa[6][7][8] in a Hindu faimily.[9] He studiet at Loyola Heich Schuil, Margao. He completit his seicontar eddication in Marathi an went on tae graduate in metallurgical ingineerin frae IIT Bombay[7] in 1978. He is the first IIT graduate tae become the Chief Meenister o ony Indie state. He was awarded by IIT Bombay with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001. Manohar Parrikar and Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of the new Unique Identification Authority of Indie (UIDAI) had graduated thegither from IIT Bombay in the year 1978.[4]

Political career

He is a member o Bharatiya Janata Pairty (BJP) an is the first Chief Meenister o Goa frae his pairty. He wis first electit tae the Seicont Legislative Assembly o the State o Goa in 1994. He wis the leader o the opposition frae Juin tae November 1999. He became the Chief Meenister o Goa for the first time on 24 October 2000, but his tenur lastit anerly till 27 Februar 2002. On 5 Juin 2002, he wis re-electit an became the Chief Meenister again.

On 29 Januar 2005, his govrenment wis reducit tae a minority in the assembly efter fower BJP MLAs resigned frae the Hoose. Housomeivver, Parrikar pruivit his majority in the hoose bi Februar 2005. In 2007, the Parrikar-led BJP wis defeatit in the Goa state elections bi the Indie Naitional Congress led bi Digambar Kamat. His pairty became victorious ance again efter the BJP an allees wan 24 seats against INC's 9 seats in the Goa Assembly Elections held in Mairch 2012.
