Menreith (English: Monreith) is a smaw seaside veelage in the Machars, in the historical coounty o Wigtounshire in Dumfries an Gallowa, Scotland.[1]

A ruint kirk near Menreith is cried "Kirkmaiden-in-Fernis" an wis dedicatit tae St Median. The chancel wis rebuilt as a mausoleum for the Maxwell faimily o nearby Menreith Hoose and that Sir Herbert Maxwell, 7t Baronet is buirit in. Within the kirkyaird is the last restin place o Caiptain François Thurot, A French kepper caiptain that lost his lilfe in a sea battle aff the Mull o Gallowa.[2]

Abuin the kirk on the clift is the memorial tae Gavin Maxwell the naituralist and author o Ring of Bright Water - an otter, sculptit bronze bi Penny Wheatly in 1978. On veesits back til the faimly seat o Menreith Hoose, Maxwell wad exerceese his tame otter Mijbil on the strand ablo.[3]
