Monrupino (Slovene: Repentabor) is a comune (municipality) in the Province o Trieste in the Italian region Friuli-Venezia Giulia, locatit aboot 9 km north o Trieste, on the border wi Slovenie. As o 31 December 2004, it haed a population o 848 an a aurie o 12.7 km².[1] According to the 1971 census, 77.3% of the population are Slovenes.

Tradeetionally, Monrupino haes been a left-leanin municipality. In the 1950s and 1960s, it wis pairt o the so-cried "red belt" aroond Trieste: that is, o those municipalities aroond the ceety dominatit bi the Communist Pairty.[3] In the Juin 1949, in the first municipal elections in the Free Territory o Trieste, the Communist-led Slavic-Italian Anti-Fascist Union wan 97% o the votes. The election result wis heraldit bi the Soviet press as a victory for the Communist Pairty.[4]

Syne the 1970s, the centrist pairty o the Slovene minority in Italy, the Slovene Union, stairtit gainin support. In the last few decades, the Slovene Union an the Italian leftist pairty (the Democratic Pairty, afore the Democrats o the Left an afore thaim the Communist Pairty) alternate in pouer. Currently, the municipality is led bi a mayor o the Slovene Union, which is the lairgest pairty in the Municipal Cooncil an aw (wi aroond 45% o votes).
