Admeenistration

The Sooth Aegean region wis established in the 1987 admeenistrative reform. Wi the 2010 Kallikratis plan, its pouers an authority wur redefinit an extendit. Alang wi the North Aegean, it is supervisit bi the Decentralized Admeenistration o the Aegean based at Piraeus. The caipital o the region is situatit in Ermoupoli on the island o Syros.

Till the Kallikratis reform, the region consistit o the twa prefecturs o the Cyclades (caiital: Ermoupoli) an the Dodecanese (caipital: Rhodes). Syne 1 Januar 2011 it is dividit intae 13 regional units, formit aroond major islands:[1]
