U Thant (Burmese: ဦးသန္ ့့; MLCTS: u:san.; Burmese pronunciation: [ʔú θa̰ɴ]; Inglis pronunciation: /ˌuː ˈθɑːnt/;[1] Januar 22, 1909 – November 25, 1974) wis a Burmese diplomat an the third Secretary-General o the Unitit Naitions, frae 1961 tae 1971. He wis chosen for the post when his predecessor, Dag Hammarskjöld, dee'd in September 1961.
