Q'eqchi' (K'ekchi', or simply Kekchi) are one of the Maya peoples in Guatemala and Belize. Their language is also called Q'eqchi'.
Before the Spanish came in the 1520s, Q'eqchi' were mostly in what are now the departments of Alta Verapaz and Baja Verapaz in Guatemala. With the activity the Q'eqchi' moved into other regions of Guatemala, southern Belize, and smaller numbers in El Salvador, Honduras and southern Mexico.
