The ARIA Charts are the charts that measure how popular music is in Australia. The charts are created by the Australian Recording Industry Association.[1]
History
Between 5 October 1966 and 24 August 1974 the Australian Singles and Albums Chart were published by Go-Set. From May 1974 Kent Music Report began issuing the charts. In June 1988, ARIA became the official Australian music chart, taking over from the Kent Music Report, which had been Australia's national music sales charts since 1974. Since February 1997, all physical sales data contributing towards the chart has been recorded electronically at point of sale. From October 2006, digital sales data was integrated into the charts alongside physical sales, although singles were required to have a physical release to be included. From November 2014 streaming data was introduced into the singles chart and the albums chart on from May 2017. On 15 March 2021, it was announced that as of the following Friday, the weekly chart figures would be released at 5pm AEST each Friday, replacing the previous method of releasing them every Saturday. From March 2022, it was announced that chart figures would incorporate YouTube streaming data from logged-in users. From September 2025, a new chart was launched called "On Replay", where singles and albums older than two years will appear.[2]
