Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi (Arabic: أَبُو حَفْصٍ ٱلْهَاشِمِيُّ ٱلْقُرَيْشِيُّ) is the fifth caliph[a] of Daesh. He become caliph on the 3rd or 6th of August 2023[b], by the spokesperson of Daesh, Abu Hudhayfah Al-Ansari, which came after 4 months after the death of Abu al-Hussein al-Husseini al-Qurashi.[4][5][6]

  1. The Islamic State describes itself as a caliphate and its leader as a caliph, but this is not accepted by the vast majority of Muslims, and is disputed by multiple Muslim scholars and authors.[1][2][3]
  2. The date of nomination is disputed but it is agreed upon that Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Quraishi was nominated in the month of August in 2023.[4][5][6]
