Alentejo (UK: /ˌælənˈteɪʒuː/ AL-ən-TAY-zhoo,[1] Portuguese: [ɐlẽˈtɛʒu] (
listen)) is a region of south–central and southern Portugal. In Portuguese, its name means "beyond (além) the Tagus river" (Tejo).
