Bowling average

In cricket, a player's bowling average is a statistic. It is used to measure the effectiveness (ability) of bowlers. The average is the number of runs they have conceded whilst bowling, divided by the number of wickets they have taken. Bowlers try to achieve an average that is as low as possible. George Lohmann (2 June 1865 – 1 December 1901) holds the record for the lowest average in Test cricket, having claimed 112 wickets at an average of 10.75 runs per wicket.^[1]
