Chelsea Green

Chelsea Anne Cardona (née Green; born April 4, 1991) is a Canadian professional wrestler. She is currently signed to WWE, where she performs on their SmackDown brand under the ring name Chelsea Green and is the leader of the stable The Green Regime. She is the current WWE Women's United States Champion in her record second reign (also the first woman to win the titie) and a former one-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion.

Early life

Chelsea Anne Green was born on April 4, 1991, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. She has stated that Kelly Kelly inspired her to become a professional wrestler.^[5]

Professional wrestling career

Independent circuit (2014–2018)

Green began her professional wrestling career in 2014, debuting on May 31. She mostly competed on the independent circuit, performing under various ring names including Jaida, Chelsea, and Princesa Gate. During this period, she also wrestled internationally, including tours in Japan for World Wonder Ring Stardom and appearances in India.

She made brief appearances for WWE early in her career, including as Daniel Bryan's physical therapist on an August 2014 episode of Raw.^[3] In 2015, she competed on the sixth season of WWE Tough Enough, placing fourth for the women.^[6]

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling / Impact Wrestling (2016–2018)

Green signed with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in June 2016. She was repackaged as a heel and debuted under the ring name Laurel Van Ness. She won the Impact Knockouts Championship once, holding it for 65 days.^[7] She requested her release from the company in early 2018.^[8]

Lucha Underground (2018)

In 2018, Green also appeared in Lucha Underground under the ring name Reklusa.

WWE (2018–2021)

Green officially signed with WWE in August 2018 and was assigned to the NXT brand.^[9] Her time in NXT saw her managed by Robert Stone.^[10] She made her main roster debut on SmackDown in November 2020 but suffered a broken wrist during her debut match, which unfortunately kept her sidelined.^[11] She was released from her WWE contract on April 15, 2021.^[12]

Return to independent circuit and Impact Wrestling (2021–2022)

Following her WWE release, Green returned to the independent circuit and also made appearances for Ring of Honor (ROH) and a second stint with Impact Wrestling. In ROH, she was scheduled to compete in a tournament for the Women's World Championship but withdrew due to another fractured wrist, instead working as a commentator.^[13]

In her second run with Impact Wrestling, she performed under her real name and often teamed with her real-life fiancé (later husband), Matt Cardona. She formed the tag team VXT with Deonna Purrazzo, and together they won the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championship once, holding it for 56 days.^[14]

Return to WWE (2023–present)

Green made her surprise return to WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble, adopting a "Karen" inspired, entitled persona. This comedic gimmick got her more fan interest.^[15]

On July 17, 2023, Green, alongside Sonya Deville, won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, marking her first championship in WWE.^[16] After Deville suffered an ACL injury, Piper Niven replaced Deville as Green's tag team partner, and they continued to hold the championships. Green's reign lasted a combined 154 days.^[17]

In December 2024, at Saturday Night's Main Event, Chelsea Green defeated Michin to become the first WWE Women's United States Champion.^[18] She currently leads "The Green Regime" stable on SmackDown, which also includes Piper Niven and Alba Fyre.^[19]

Personal life

Chelsea Green is married to fellow professional wrestler Matt Cardona (formerly Zack Ryder in WWE). They began dating in January 2017 and announced their engagement on Green's 28th birthday, April 4, 2019.^[20] They were married on New Year's Eve 2021 in Las Vegas.^[21]

On January 16, 2024, Green announced that she had obtained a United States green card.^[22] She also claims to hold British citizenship.^[23]
